Maths Outside The Box is now offering online and in-person INSET sessions for schools!
I have three ready-to-go INSETs to choose from, that can be delivered either in person or online that are around 2 hours long. Perfect for a twilight training session or as part of an INSET day, however I am open to suggestions if you wanted something a little more bespoke for your school/longer/shorter etc. Just get in touch using the contact page and tell me a bit about what you are looking for and the challenges your school are facing, and I will get back to you.
Teaching Maths through stories is a joyful way to teach Maths - but there are many incredible benefits to the children's learning experience too. This training session shows best practice tips for teaching Maths this way, guides you through how to plan a purposeful and engaging Maths storybook lesson, offers book recommendations and examines how Maths storybooks can play an important role in your classroom.
Why is it that Maths gets 'missed' when we plan our cross-curricular lessons? There are plenty of ways we can link key Maths skills to other areas of learning, but knowing where to start (and where to fit it in) can be daunting. However, with a recent call for more real-life Maths application in Primary schools, now is the time to equip your staff with the confidence and skill-set needed to start implementing a cross-curricular approach to Maths.
We can all probably teach fluency standing on our heads. But what about reasoning and problem solving? Can you clearly articulate the difference between the two? Can you, hand on heart, say that you incorporate these skills in to every Maths lesson? How can you teach problem solving in KS1 if the reading level isn't there yet?
